Sixteen-year-old Amita Shukla, with an interest and talent in both art and engineering, is going to represent Highland Park in the 2015 session of the New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology, where she will collaborate with other high school students on an original research project to present at the end of the program. On May 1, 2015, the Highland Park Board of Education filed a formal legal challenge to the N.J. Commissioner of Education’s approval of the expansion of Hatikvah Charter School in East Brunswick. The board is specifically challenging the tuition requirement mandating the Highland Park School District to pay tuition for the Highland Park students enrolled in the charter school.
