Five Highland Park community service initiatives created by Highland Park residents each won a $2,000 grant from Park Partners – a Highland Park Borough-sponsored, “give-back” program for its residents. More than 250 Highland Park residents selected the winners from a pool of 12 projects in a competitive voting session on February 17, 2019. Main Street honors Franco Juricic, devoted to his family, his community, Pancreatic Awareness, and the HP 5K
|
Main Street Highland Park’s staff and board
members have added one more reason why Highland Park’s 5K Race is known
statewide as a community event with soul. This year the race is honoring the
life of Franco Juricic, who died on March 6, 2019 from pancreatic cancer. As in years past, the 5k registration fees and sponsorship
proceeds are donated to Highland Park’s
community groups, including: the Highland Park Library, Recreation
Department, Fire Department, First Aid Squad, and Police Department. For the 2019
Highland Park 5K, an additional charity – pancreatic cancer research – will benefit
from the generosity of Highland Park residents through a separate fundraising
effort spearheaded by the 5k Race Committee and Main Street. Franco Juricic and his whole family have been
5k runners since the beginning 11 years ago. READ MORE

Franco Juricic Turned his Personal Tragedy into an Exhilarating Victory for Humanity
|
Franco Paul Juricic of Highland Park may have lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on March 6, 2019, but won a great eternal victory for the resilience, spirituality, and dignity of human kind. He not only was a beloved husband and father, but also a beloved citizen in his community and advocate for helping others with pancreatic cancer by raising awareness about the need for dedicating resources to finding a cure. In his honor, the Sunday, May 5, 2019, Highland Park 5k race, is being dedicated to his memory by mobilizing runners and the entire town to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PCAN). The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. The entrance fee for the 5k race as in the past goes to support a variety of community organizations, but the generous runners and community members have stepped up with extra funds for the PCAN.
