Lock ’em Up – Your Cars, That Is. Police Seek Help with Recent Car Thefts of Unlocked Cars

The Highland Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying an individual accused of breaking into several vehicles on Graham Street, Cedar Ave, Valentine Street and South Adelaide Ave.

A total of 10 burglaries to motor vehicles were reported between ranging between the evening hours of 10/25 and the early morning hours of 10/26. Each of the 10 break-ins was the result of people leaving their vehicles unlocked.

Chief Abrams would like to urge residents to lock their car doors when left unattended to avoid becoming a victim.

“Car break ins are crimes of opportunity, individuals are going through neighborhoods pulling on door handles to see what is left unlocked. Please lock your doors and, if you see something, say something.” Chief Abrams said.

Anyone who lives in the area and has video cameras set up is asked to check their footage to see if they recorded anyone walking around these break-ins should serve as a reminder for residents to lock their vehicles when left unattended.
