HP Borough ‘Civics for the Community’ event on Sept. 18 Highlights Role of the NJ Office of Legislative Services

The Borough of Highland Park’s Civics for the Community series is hosting a presentation/discussion on: “Researching, drafting, & more: How the New Jersey Office of Legislative Services assists the lawmaking process.”  Highland Park resident Peri A. Horowitz, executive director of the NJ State Legislature’s Office of Legislative Services will lead the discussion on Wednesday, September 18, 7-8:30 pm, Highland Park Middle School Cafeteria, 220 Wayne St.

The Office of Legislative Services is an agency of the New Jersey State Legislature established by law to provide professional, nonpartisan staff support services to the N.J. Legislature and its officers, members, committees and commissions. The services include:general, legal and fiscal research and analysis; bill drafting, legal opinions, ceremonial resolution drafting; fiscal note preparation; committee staffing; district office rental and supply; distribution of bills and legislative documents; computer data-base management;public information programs; general administrative services; and personnel program management.

In her role as OLS executive director, Ms. Horowitz, who holds an M.P.A. from the School of Public Affairs at Baruch College of the City University of New York,  supervises daily operations, including employing and placing personnel and coordinating budgetary matters. She came to OLS after almost 16 years in positions of increasing responsibility within the independent, non-partisan NYC Campaign Finance Board.
