Breaking News Brief: Former PJ’s Coffee Location Takes on a Mediterranean Flavor

A new restaurant specializing in Turkish cuisine is in the process of moving into the space formerly occupied by PJ’s Coffee on Raritan Avenue. The new occupant, called “Istanbul,” will serve Turkish cuisine and is striving to open within the next four to five weeks, depending upon how quickly it can obtain the necessary approvals from the borough.

The departure of PJ’s in May left a large hole in the downtown retail landscape. In the midst of much speculation by the residents about what would fill the void, the “Istanbul” owners hope to provide a spicy new element in Highland Park’s restaurant scene.
